SO!YOON! #SEOUL

This week’s episode features the multi-talented vocalist So!YoON! of indie pop trio Se So Neon. The song ‘Holiday’ marks her solo debut following years of loving and playing the electric guitar. Follow us on this journey to find out what Seoul means to her and plans for the future.

Can you tell us about yourself?

Hello, I am So!YoON! I’m a solo musician and also a member of the band 'SE SO NEON'. I recently released my first solo album called Holiday.

How did you get started in music?

When I was 11 years old I thought the electric guitar looked so cool, and from then on I started playing the guitar. In junior high school, I began writing songs by chance and now here I am.

Can you tell us what Seoul means to you?

Seoul is where I was born and grew up. Seoul also have a talent to make people lonely. I’ve always felt loneliness while looking at the desolate apartments over the windows in my room.

Is that the same with the music scene in Seoul?

The music scene in Seoul seems to be similar to the educational culture of Seoul. I often feel that everyone pretends not to be this, but they are in a system that can only survive if they compete and win.

Wow, that sounds tough. Then, can you describe it in a few words?

I’d say it’s love and hatred and reality.

Any important moment in your career so far?

When I formed the band 'SE SO NEON' I had no idea that I would ever be in a band. I found out that being in a band is very fun but also hard. I guess that 'SE SO NEON' will be an important axis in my music life and continue to be so as I move forward.

Is there any particular places you want to play at?

There are so many beautiful festivals and wonderful places in the world, but I think it will be too empty after I achieve it, so I want to perform in places where no one has performed.

What’s your plan for the future?

The reason I play music is so that I can express the things that I feel, but it’s also related to my habit of always looking for new things. I want to be a person who shows people new things forever..
